Biomimetic Dentistry is founded on the principle of prevention. We strive to preserve your natural teeth as much as possible and treat the necessary problems as soon as they arise.  We use the latest technologies to help diagnose and detect decay, such as DIAGNOdent and Caries Detector, so that we can be as conservative as possible with early detection. 

All patients are recommended biannual cleanings. Not only do they help you stop dental problems before they arise, they leave your gums healthier, and your teeth cleaner and whiter. A professional cleaning removes hard plaque that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. The treatment helps protect and soothe your teeth and gums. 

Sometimes cleanings need to be more intensive.  Periodontal maintenance and Scaling involves removing plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. What can start out as gingivitis (inflamed or bleeding gums) can quickly turn into periodontitis. In such cases, gums pull away from the tooth to create “pockets,” thereby exposing a dental root to infection. It can also lead to prolonged bad breath, loose teeth, chronic inflammation, along with an acidic mouth.

Biomimetic fillings are used to prevent the spread of tooth decay or correct any cosmetic damage.  Biomimetic fillings are a tooth-colored filling that will look and behave like a natural tooth. Composite fillings are bonded to the tooth through specific adhesive protocols which allows Dr. Davies to be more conservative and only take out what is needed. 

A properly trained biomimetic dentist won't place a crown on a tooth that doesn't have an existing crown already. The biomimetic version of a severely compromised tooth would be to place an onlay or an inlay.  These treatments only remove the infected or damaged areas while leaving the surrounding tooth structure intact. The onlay or inlay is the name of the custom made piece that fits in the missing area. 

One of the benefits of biomimetic dentistry is the ability to do a wide variety of treatments without having to be numb.  To be able to achieve this, Dr. Davies will use an air abrasion device to selectively remove decayed areas.  It is a painless solution that offers numerous benefits.  This is the perfect solution when working on kids!  No pain. No injections.  This same technique can potentially be used for repairs on existing work.

Professional teeth whitening is faster, more effective, and longer lasting than treatments you find over the counter.  Bleaching represents the most conservative esthetic treatment of a discolored vital tooth.  Often, teeth can brighten by two to four shades in a single cycle.  The bleaching agent, 10% carbamide peroxide,  already known as an oral antiseptic, is applied as viscous gel in a soft template, allowing a continuous and slow release of oxygen, in the form of hydrogen peroxide.  We are proud to offer In-office Zoom Whitening along with custom at-home treatments.

Most people think of Invisalign as a cosmetic procedure when in reality its so much more.  We view Invisalign as an investment in your long term oral health.  By properly aligning your teeth, you will be preventing possible gingivitis, excessive tooth wear all while improving your total health.  Straight teeth are easier to clean and maintain.  You can expect to see results anywhere from 3 - 6 months.  

Ceramic veneers can provide a powerful modality for esthetics.  Modification of form, position, and color of anterior teeth generates significant effects on the smile, which in turn can enhance the patient's personality and social life.  Porcelain Veneers can be one of  the most biomimetic restoration to replace worn or chipped enamel, due to its ability to restore and mimic enamel.  While they are not suitable for every patient, veneers are the most aesthetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions. 

We use the Huggins-Grube Protocol for safe mercury filling removal. Once the mercury fillings are placed inside a patient’s teeth, it is of the utmost importance to have them removed as safely as possible to limit additional exposure to the patient. This is critical because from the time the mercury fillings are implanted into the teeth, they are continually off gassing mercury.  We put in multiple safety precautions to prevent possible exposures to you and to keep you as healthy as possible.

Most of the time, Biomimetic Dentistry can avoid a root canal.  We have found that the prevalence of root canal treatments has dropped about 90% from following biomimetic protocols. Dr Davies strives to keep teeth alive.  If we catch the disease soon enough, we can often reverse the prognosis with advanced techniques and materials, saving your tooth from needing a root canal.  If you have been told you need one, we would be happy to give a second opinion to see if we can help avoid a root canal procedure.
